October, Round One

Now that the White Sox have finally clinched the American League Central division title, we can safely begin predictions for the first round of the MLB playoffs. Adam Graham already has his predictions posted as does the Bleacher Report.

Here are my predictions for the first round of the Major League Baseball playoffs:

Cubs v. Dodgers. Will go 5 games, Dodgers win 3-2 despite the Cubs historical season. This series is about pitching on the surface, but expect big hits from Manny Ramirez.

Brewers v. Phillies. Won't need to go 5 games if the Phillies only see Sabathia once. The Brewers will be out-pitched with Hamels, Moyer, and Lidge on the hill for Philly.

For those keeping score at home, that's a Dodgers/Phillies match up for the National League Championship Series.

Angels v. Red Sox. As I've mentioned this one is tough. Pitching duels will force this series to come down to who can manufacture runs. For that reason I'm going with the Angels with a slight one game edge because of the fearlessness of Mike Scioscia.

White Sox v. Rays. Despite what has been a nice two-game comeback from Chicago, they're tired and hurting. The big bats of the veterans (and young Alexei Ramirez) will be no match for the energy and 'nothing to lose' attitude of the Rays. 4 games, 3-1.

That's the Rays and Angels in the American League Championship Series.

The schedule has been set for the first three games of each series. All division series games (i.e. first round playoff games) are being broadcast on TBS for year two of that contract. Here is the schedule by series:
