The Role of Government

I'm beginning to wonder what Congressman Minnick (R-Idaho) believes the role of government should be. A month ago he said this:
REP. MINNICK: We all recognize that in a recession this severe, the federal government has to do something. The issue is how much should we spend to create jobs and how do we ensure that this is a one-time event and not a continuation of piling debt that our kids and grandkids are going to have to repay.
And today? The federal government has to do something, but it damn well better stay away from state-specific earmarks! Aren't earmarks precisely the reason Larry Craig was around for so long? I'm sure that Simpson, Crapo and even Risch realize that competitive grants alone aren't going to save Idaho in this recession.
